TechCollect NZ offers free e-waste disposal in Buller
TechCollect NZ (TCNZ) partnered with Buller District Council and Smart Environmental to offer local residents and small businesses a free facility to drop off their e-waste and have it recycled. The partnership represented another milestone in the expansion of TCNZ's pilot programme across New Zealand.
"It is truly fantastic to expand our pilot programme to the Buller District. Buller is now another region in our growing national network where we can help to prevent e-waste being dumped in landfill and rescue valuable materials to benefit the Kiwi economy." — Michael Dudley, Senior Policy Manager
TCNZ's pilot programme commenced at the Westport and Reefton Transfer Stations on Saturday, 17 July 2021. Residents and small businesses could drop off accepted e-waste items during opening hours for free until 31 December 2021.
Accepted e-waste items included computers, laptops, notebooks, tablets, palmtops, CRT monitors and projectors, LCD and flat panel monitors, printers, scanners, multi-functional devices, cameras, video cameras and computer peripherals including power supplies and adaptors.
"We are super excited to bring this service to Buller and thank our partners SEL and TCNZ for their support in formulating an agreement that will ensure residents and small businesses in Buller have access to a responsible free recycling option for their e-waste." — Juliana Ruiz, Council Solid Waste Coordinator
