Councils and community trusts play a vital role in making e-waste drop-off accessible across Aotearoa. By funding local collection, you give your community a free, safe, and responsible way to dispose of old electronics.
New Zealand generates over 100,000 tonnes of e-waste annually. Without convenient local drop-off, much of it ends up in landfill, where hazardous materials can leach into soil and waterways.
Most free collection points are in main centres. Smaller towns and rural communities often have no convenient local option, unless a council or trust steps in to fund one.
Funded collection sites in Buller, Gisborne, Westland, Hastings, Porirua, Hamilton and Southland have collectively diverted tonnes of e-waste from landfill, because someone chose to invest.
We work with councils and trusts in whatever way suits your community best.
You fund and operate your own drop-off point, typically at a resource recovery centre, transfer station, or civic facility. TechCollect NZ provides logistics, collection, and certified recycling. You get a local site that your community can rely on year-round.
We can extend collection at an existing Noel Leeming or Warehouse store in your region. Your funding covers the cost of collection from that site, making it free for residents. No infrastructure required on your part.
Partial sponsorship can make a meaningful difference. Trusts and community funders can contribute to the operating costs of an existing or new collection site, with acknowledgement as a funding partner.
